The National Library of Ireland is located at four buildings in Dublin. Visit us and enjoy our exhibitions and events, or apply for a reader’s ticket to access our reading rooms. All of the buildings are open to the public free of charge.
Transport Options
The National Library of Ireland (NLI), on Kildare Street, is less than 500 metres from St Stephen’s Green, Grafton Street and Trinity College.
Pearse Street DART/ Commuter Rail Station is 500 metres from the NLI.
From Heuston station:
The number 4 bus runs from Dublin Heuston to Nassau Street.
From Nassau Street it is a short 3-minute walk to the library.
Take the Luas Green Line to Dawson Street to reach the NLI. From there, the NLI is 300 metres away.
Several Dublin Bus routes serve Kildare Street / Dawson Street and are a short walk from the library. Buses that stop on these streets are 40, 25, 7B, 7D, 11, 11B, 37, 38, 38A, 38B, 39, 39A, 70, E1, E2 and the Aircoach.
Dublin bikes is a public bicycle rental scheme which has operated in the city of Dublin since 2009. The nearest Dublin Bike station is on Leinster Street South, 150 metres from the NLI.
There is no public parking facility at the NLI. There is on street metered parking on Merrion Square. There is a set-down lay-by in front of Leinster House approximately 45 metres from the NLI front gate and wheelchair parking bays on Molesworth Street approximately 100 metres from the NLI. There are commercial carparks nearby at Schoolhouse Lane, with five accessible parking spaces, and Setanta Place, with one accessible parking space.
