The inaugural 2024/25 NLI-EPA photographer-in-residence project has been nominated for a 2025 Business to Arts award in the ESB Creative Sustainability Award category. This new award recognises creative partnerships that address themes around the environment, climate crisis, and circular economy and inspire positive change within the communities they engage with. The award honours the power of arts and culture in shaping a greener future.
The project marked the first official partnership between the NLI and the Environmental Protectional Agency (Ireland). Artist and photographer Paula T. Nolan travelled around the 26 counties, almost exclusively by public transport, and across the four seasons to capture images of the climate and changing environment. Aided by access to EPA experts, and the rich archives of the NLI, Nolan interviewed and photographed local communities to record their lived experience of the Irish landscape.
The hundreds of images captured during the residency will be catalogued and added to the National Collection. They will be available online for public access from early 2026. Read more about the project here.
The winner will be announced at the National Concert Hall award ceremony on September 8th. Read more here: Awards Shortlist 2025 | Business to Arts: Building Corporate Cultural Partnerships
