Important information regarding changes to opening hours of National Library of Ireland due to industrial action.

  • Wednesday 30 September 2026: The NLI Kildare Street reading rooms (Main, Microfilm, Family History and Manuscripts Reading Rooms) will close early (4pm).

  • Saturday 3 October 2026: The Kildare Street campus will be closed to the public. This includes Saturday opening of the Main Reading Room, WB Yeats Exhibition, Reader Registration office and Kildare Street Buildings.

This is due to industrial action across the public sector.

While the industrial action continues, only material held on-site will be available for consultation in the reading rooms. Items stored off-site cannot be ordered during this period.

Scheduled opening hours for Thursday 1 October and Friday 2 October are currently unaffected.

Further closures may be necessary at short notice. If you plan to visit our reading rooms, exhibitions or other locations, please check our opening hours page and social channels for up-to-date information before you travel.
