Don't Be Afraid

In 2013, Seamus Heaney sent a heartfelt text to his wife, Marie, that would become his moving final words: Noli timere — "Don’t be afraid."
Dublin street artist, Maser was so inspired by these final words he transformed them into a street art piece on South Richmond Street, offering comfort and hope to those who encountered it. In 2018, Maser revisited this tribute by recreating the artwork as part of the Listen Now Again exhibition, this time on a chalkboard wall, asking all those who walked through the space to be inspired by Heaney’s words and to add their own.
This National Drawing Day, we invite you to join us for two creative sessions at 10am and 1:30pm where participants can draw inspiration from Heaney’s timeless message and contribute to a vibrant wall of creativity. Reflect on Heaney’s message, add your own expression and take inspiration; don’t be afraid—come and create with us!
