Explore the work of a conservator in the NLI and the challenges faced in protecting the national collections.
Join former Heritage Council Conservation Intern Jen Bowens as she presents her conservation work undertaken at the National Library of Ireland in 2020-2022. Introduced by Maria Montcalm, NLI Conservator.
A look back at one Heritage Council Intern’s experience at the National Library of Ireland from 2020 to 2022. Jen will discuss what it was like to start their career during a pandemic, the projects they were able to take part in, and where the experience they gained during the internship has brought them since.
Jen will speak about tricky treatments needed in the Prints, Drawings and Ephemera collection, the challenges of preparing collections for digitisation, and building confidence working with bound materials.
Highlights include some of the Library’s beautiful printed artworks, W. B Yeats’ marital letters, and the Clóliosta Digitisation Project.
