Finding Gibbet Hill: A Remarkable Discovery, One Year On.
- Saturday 01 November, 1pm
Finding Gibbet Hill traces the remarkable journey of Brian Cleary, whose personal experience of sudden hearing loss led him deep into the archives of the National Library of Ireland, where he uncovered a long-lost short story by Bram Stoker.
His discovery made headlines around the world, with coverage in The New York Times, The Guardian, the BBC and countless other publications, before it was unveiled as last year’s festival. It also acted as the launchpad for the Charlotte Stoker Fund, named in honour of Bram’s pioneering mother and her 19th-century advocacy for the deaf. Published by the Rotunda Foundation, proceeds from Gibbet Hill sales have enabled the Fund to support exciting research into preventable hearing loss in vulnerable newborns.
Now, one year on, this special event reflects on the cultural and historical context of Gibbet Hill’s rediscovery, its ties to the National Library, and shares new developments from the Charlotte Stoker Fund. A panel discussion will feature members of the creative team who brought Gibbet Hill to life: acclaimed Stoker biographer Paul Murray and visual artist Paul McKinley. The event will be chaired by NLI Director Dr Audrey Whitty.
Book your place for this event through the Bram Stoker Festival and the link above. Tickets are free, but booking is required.
