"Seamus Heaney: Listen Now Again" opening 6 July

We're delighted to announce that our forthcoming exhibition ‘Seamus Heaney: Listen Now Again’, will open to the public on Friday, 6th July 2018. Make sure  to join the exhibition mailing list and keep updated on progress.

A partnership project between the NLI, the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and Bank of Ireland, the exhibition will draw on the National Library’s extensive archive of Heaney documents and will feature Heaney’s original manuscripts as well as letters, unpublished works, diary entries, photographs, note books and multi-media recordings.

The exhibition will be the first exhibition to be housed in the new Bank of Ireland Cultural and Heritage Centre within Bank of Ireland’s College Green complex. Curated by Director of Irish Studies at Emory University, Geraldine Higgins, working closely with the Heaney family, and designed by Ralph Appelbaum and Associates, the exhibition will take the visitor on a multi-sensory journey from Heaney’s origins through his remarkable poetic career.

Commenting on the announcement, Director of the NLI, Dr Sandra Collins said: “After many exciting months of planning and collaboration with our partners, we are thrilled to announce the opening date of ‘Seamus Heaney: Listen Now Again’ as 6 July 2018. Everyone involved is working hand-in-hand to create an unforgettable experience, one which offers an intimate, immersive and tactile encounter with Seamus Heaney, his life and legacy, and showcasing the archive donated by the family in 2011. We hope this free exhibition will inspire visitors to see the world as Heaney did, finding the extraordinary in the ordinary, and look forward to welcoming them in July.”
