Move of NLI book collection to improved storage

Monday 4 March 2019

As part of the major redevelopment of the NLI's main building on Kildare Street, which has the primary goal of enhancing the care and long term preservation of the national collections, we are delighted to announce the move of books from the Victorian West Wing to more suitable and secure storage, beginning on Monday 4th March.

The first phase of this move involves the transfer of a number of the books and periodicals currently housed in the Library's West Wing - those identified as being least-used - to off-site storage for the duration of the building project. It will take place from 4 March until the beginning of April. Books will be moved through our main hall, and we will be aiming to minimize any inconvenience.

Most of the books currently stored in the West Wing are staying onsite, and will be moved to improved storage onsite from April onwards.
The reading room will remain open as normal throughout the move of the book collection, and all items will continue to be accessible, although there may be an impact on delivery times for some items. If you order an item which fall into this category, a member of staff will follow up with you directly to let you know further details.

Thank you for your patience through this major and complex undertaking, and if you have queries or feedback please let us know on
