Designer Peter O'Brien donates drawings to the National Library

Designer Peter O’Brien has donated a collection of theatre drawings to the National Library of Ireland. The drawings are of his costumes for Brian Friel’s version of A Month in the Country by Ivan Turgenev that was staged by the Gate Theatre in 2015.

The Library already holds the personal papers and manuscripts of Brian Friel and the donation of these drawings will enhance and complement our collection.

A graduate of Saint Martin’s School of Arts, London and Parsons School of Design in New York O'Brien has worked at Christian Dior, Givenchy and Chloé.  In 1989, he was appointed creative director at Rochas where he remained for 12 years designing women’s wear and accessories, and overseeing menswear, perfumes and licenses.

O'Brien returned to Ireland in 2004 where he has since been working as a ready-to-wear designer as well as designing costumes for The Abbey and the Gate Theatre.
