Performance: An Evening of Romanian poetry and music

To celebrate Romania's Presidency of the Council of the European Union (1 January 2019 – 30 June 2019), HE Mrs. Manuela Breazu, Ambassador of Romania  hosts  an evening of Romanian poetry and music at the National Library of Ireland.

Wednesday 27 February 2019, 7 pm

Programme: Listen to a selection of  poems from Romanian writers Mihai Eminescu, Gelu Naum, Marin Sorescu, Nichita Stanescu, Ion Minulescu and Irish writer Shannon Kelly which will be interspersed with musical works of Romanian composers George Enescu, Constantin Dimitrescu, Bela Bartok, Vasile Jianu, Diamandi Gheciu and Stan Golestan.

Artists:

 Barry Mc Govern is one of Ireland's most skilled and experienced actors, who has had a long career in theatre, film, television and radio. He is regarded by many as one of the leading exponents of the work of Samuel Beckett.
Shannon Kuta Kelly is a poet based in Galway. Her work has been published in Poetry Ireland Review and the Irish Times, and she was named one of the 50 best new British and Irish Poets of 2018 by editor Maggie Smith.
Born in Dublin, Dermot Dunne won several competitions in Ireland, France, Italy, Poland and Germany. He won the first prize in the RTE Musician of the Future Competition-the first accordionist ever to participate in this festival.
Andreea Banciu and Adrian Mantu are the violist and cellist of the celebrated RTE ConTempo Quartet, winner of 14 International Prizes (London, Berlin, Prague, Rome, Munich, Hamburg, Graz). The ConTempo Quartet is the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Music from the National University of Ireland in Galway.
