UCD Lifelong Learning  Taster Lecture series

Speaker: Dr Chiara Tedaldi, UCD.

This lecture will discuss the recent removal of Francisco Franco’s remains from the Valley of the Fallen (24 Oct. 2019) with a view to highlighting the symbolic importance of this event and how it is connected to current debates on the Spanish Civil War. It will also examine the reasons behind the construction of the basilica and the role of the Catholic Church in the framing of the conflict as a “crusade”.
