Getting started with Genealogy research

Accredited Genealogists Ireland (AGI) in association with the NLI present a series of genealogy lectures and afternoon workshops for Aontas Adult Learners’ festival. The talks and workshops will take place on Monday 5 March and on Friday 9 March.

Professional genealogists and members of AGI will give three short introductory genealogy lectures followed by small group workshops to help you get started or to progress your family history research.

Monday 5 March, 11.30 – 1.30

Lectures:
• Getting Started with Civil Registration
• Getting Started with Land Records by Helen Kelly M.A.G.I
Getting Started with Census Records by Aiden Feerick B.A., M.A.G.I

There will be a 5 minute break between each lecture

2.15-3.30/4pm
• Workshop:  Bring your family information, your questions or your brick walls to these group sessions.  Each group will be led by a professional genealogist and member of AGI.  Discussing research experience, solutions and research problems in a group setting with the expertise and experience of a professional genealogist can greatly benefit your own family history and open up new sources and methods for research.

Those who sign up to stay for the workshops will have the opportunity to start or progress their family history research, working closely with a professional genealogist.  Working in small groups the genealogist will assess your family information and get you started on your research.  They will share their tips for navigating online resources as well as directions to vital resources that are not available online.
Please bring along your family information if you plan to join the workshops.

Places in the workshops are limited and will be granted on a first come first served basis.
