Using the National Library's Services

The Library continues to follow the latest Government advice and to prioritise the health and safety of our users and staff.  From Monday 28 February the use of face coverings (masks) is optional and wearing a face covering is a personal choice. You are welcome to continue to wear a face covering while in NLI buildings. During a visit, you will see protective measures including protective screens at the public counters, signage, sanitisation stations and increased ventilation across our buildings.

We have returned to full capacity in the Reading Rooms and you will no longer need to make an appointment to access our Reading Rooms or Family History Service in Kildare Street. Material must be ordered in advance using the Online Order form. There will be two deliveries each day in the Reading Rooms and it will be possible to place an order for materials from more than one reading room per day.

Please do not visit the Library if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19.

Current opening hours are available here.

Exhibitions
Our exhibition ‘Seamus Heaney: Listen Now Again’ is running at the Bank of Ireland Cultural and Heritage Centre on Westmoreland Street and Yeats: The Life and Works of William Butler Yeats is running in our main building on Kildare Street.
