Accessing Prints, Drawings and Ephemera

With effect from 14 August 2017, access to original material in the Prints and Drawings and Ephemera collections will be suspended for the period of the National Library's 'Reimagining the Library' development project.

The first phase of the building project is the construction of a high density book store in the first floor of the NCAD building where Prints and Drawings are currently stored and consulted.

As of July 2017 some 17,000 items from this collection are already available online and more, including the sketchbooks collection, will become available during the latter half of the year. We will continue to catalogue and digitise further parts of these collections to increase online availability. Suggestions for cataloguing and /or digitisation of particular collections should be directed to

We are very much aware that researchers will be disappointed at not having access to original material but we ask for your understanding as we undertake this major redevelopment of our building, for the long term good of the collections.

Further information on the project is available here.
