Reading Rooms

Following a successful pilot in our Manuscripts Reading Room, we are piloting a similar approach to delivering books, microfilm and newspapers in our main reading room on Kildare Street. This pilot introduces advance ordering and reserving, but means that the material you want to consult will be delivered at set times, rather than on demand.

What will this mean?

•    You will be able to order 5 items in advance  by email  to, or by telephone to 01 6030213, up to 4pm on the last weekday prior to your visit. These will be waiting for you from 9.30am on the day of your visit. Items ordered after this time will be ready for the first order time of the morning (10am).

•    You will be able to reserve items for use on a subsequent visit

•    You will be able to place orders in the reading room during your research visit (5 items per order). These will be delivered to you as soon as possible after the order times below. Download more details on how to order here:

DayOrder up to

Note: In cases where a surrogate copy of an item in the collections exists the original item will not be issued. There are also situations where original material will not be issued even if there are no surrogates eg in the case of items which are particularly fragile or vulnerable (and are therefore withdrawn for conservation purposes).
