The National Library of Ireland was delighted to launch ReViewing Ireland at Whitewater Shopping Centre, Newbridge, as part of June Fest 2026.

The photographic display showcases the work of photographer Paula T. Nolan, who travelled to all 26 counties during 2024–2025 as part of the National Library of Ireland and EPA Ireland Photographer-in-Residence programme. Travelling by public transport and e-bike, Paula documented Ireland's changing environment and the people, communities and landscapes shaping its future.

The launch welcomed visitors from across Kildare and beyond, offering an opportunity to view a selection of photographs from the project and meet Paula. Throughout the weekend, she spoke with visitors about her journey, the stories behind the images, and the environmental themes that emerged during her travels.

Among those attending were representatives from the arts, heritage and local communities, including Anna O'Sullivan, Director of Butler Gallery, Kilkenny, and Senator Fiona O'Loughlin.

Visitors were particularly drawn to Paula's portraits of people whose lives reflect wider social and environmental change across Ireland. One photograph features members of the Carey family outside their former business, Kincora Stores in Portarlington, County Laois. The shop operated from 1903 until its closure in 2024, highlighting the challenges facing long-established independent retailers.

The display also offered an introduction to the wider ReViewing Ireland project, which comprises almost 400 photographs documenting contemporary Ireland. From peatland restoration and renewable energy projects to coastal communities, farms and urban environments, the collection provides a compelling visual record of a country undergoing environmental and social change.

This exhibition forms part of the National Library of Ireland's commitment to sharing its collections with audiences across the country and bringing contemporary documentary photography into community spaces.

Photographer Paula T Nolan said:

“Travelling around Ireland for a year, it was the people I met who made this project as diverse and detailed as it is. While anybody can access the photographs online through the National Library website, it is important also to ‘bring it back home’ to the people who made it – thus showcasing it nationwide in public spaces. First stop was June Fest in Newbridge, County Kildare, and next stop is the Climate Inspirations Festival in Galway city, 24–28 June!”

We would like to thank June Fest Newbridge and Whitewater Shopping Centre for their support in hosting the photographic display and introducing Paula's work to new audiences.
