Archive talks, hands-on editing, and a community meitheal to get Irish queer history on Wikipedia.

On Friday 19 June, Wikimedia Community Ireland is hosting OUT of the Archive + Into the Record; a free, full-day public event at the National Library of Ireland, in partnership with the NLI and the Irish Queer Archive. Part of Wiki Loves Pride 2026, a global Wikipedia campaign each June dedicated to improving how LGBTQ+ history, culture, and community is represented online.

The Wiki Loves Pride 2026 motto is Diverse Voices, Diverse Data which calls on us to discover the world that is right in front of us but not yet in a Wikipedia article, a Wikimedia Commons file, or a Wikidata item. Making something that was once invisible visible to the world can make a huge difference and demonstrate that Pride is everywhere.

This event is about queering the record; adding the stories, people, places, and moments that have been left out of the public record, and doing it together. Wikipedia is not neutral by default. It reflects who has had the time, access, and confidence to write it. When queer history is missing, it's not because it didn't happen - it's because no one has written it yet.
