“If poetry and the arts do anything, they can fortify your inner life, your inwardness.”
Join us on Saturday 9th May at 2pm for a guided tour of the vibrant visual art on display as part of the Seamus Heaney: Listen Now Again exhibition.
As we brush through the visual art displayed throughout the space, we will paint a picture of Seamus Heaney’s relationship with artists and the ways in which his poetry impacted and influenced the world of visual art. With almost twenty visual artists represented in the exhibition, each expresses unique yet universally accessible aspects that permeate Heaney’s work: themes of heritage, homeplace, connection and community.
Featuring both contemporary figures such as Dimitri Hadzi and Barrie Cooke who worked closely with the poet, and those he never had the opportunity to meet including Maser and James Dodds this tour encounters artists Heaney befriended, collaborated and inspired.
Journeying across continents and a wide spectrum of media, this tour enriches understanding of Seamus Heaney as an advocate for the arts in all its many forms.
