The third instalment in the popular Cooking the Books series, where the culinary history found in the NLI’s collections is brought to life. Drop in and meet NLI archivists Nora Thornton and Joanne Carroll for an informal chat about all things recipes.

Assistant Keeper, Special Collections

Nora Thornton began working in the NLI as a Library Assistant in 2009. She is now an Assistant Keeper in the Special Collections Department working with the photographic collections in the NPA. She has always loved baking and history and as a “retired” archaeologist is also interested in the experimental side of learning about the past.

Assistant Keeper, Manuscripts Department

Joanne Carroll began working in the NLI in 2016 and is Assistant Keeper in the Manuscripts Department working on the cataloguing and digitisation of archive collections, including the Liam O’Leary Archive, the Band Aid Archive and most recently the Yeats Occult Papers.  She is a keen foodie who loves talking about food and trying new things to eat.
