‘Hawthorn & Rags’ | A Lino Printing Workshop
‘I thought of her as the wishing tree…’
Celebrate the spirit of St Patrick’s season by turning to Ireland’s rich folklore at Seamus Heaney: Listen Now Again!
Inspired by Seamus Heaney’s poem ‘The Wishing Tree’, this relaxed, beginner-friendly workshop invites you to decorate the poem using simple lino printing techniques. In the poem, Heaney recalls an old Irish custom: tying rags, or clooties, to hawthorn trees near holy wells, calling on the fairies to grant a heartfelt wish.
While we can’t promise that your wishes will come true, you’ll leave with a beautiful handmade print and a renewed appreciation for one of Ireland’s greatest poets and the traditions that inspired his work. We’ll provide the tools - you bring the wish!
