In Person

Join us for lecture by Daniel Carey during the Dublin Festival of History.

The Standard newspaper was the semi-official ‘voice’ of Catholic Ireland for fifty years (1928-1978). It claimed a weekly circulation of 80,000, and staunchly defended Catholic Church policy in every political, social, and cultural debate for half a century.

This lecture will examine the paper’s position in some key battlegrounds – including censorship, the Mother and Child Scheme, free education and communism.
