Online talk | Countess Markievicz’s propaganda cartoons

EP MARK-CO (1) IV
Historian Alison Martin's illustrated talk will examine some of Markieviz’s key propaganda cartoons, now held in the NLI.
As well as being a politician and revolutionary, Countess Markievicz was also a trained artist. Between 1922 and 1923, she produced a number of propaganda cartoons criticising the Treaty, leading Treatyite politicians and anyone else associated with the fledgling Free State.
This illustrated talk will examine some of Markieviz’s key propaganda cartoons, now held in the NLI. These cartoons provide an insight into her views on issues of gender and class for example. This talk will also provide some background into Markieviz’s life.
