Language and Learning: Teanga agus foghlaim

Tuesday 20 November, 2pm – 3pm.

Speakers: Mairéad Nic Giolla Mhichíl,  Associate Professor of Information Technology, Dublin City University.
Fernando Rosell-Aguilar, Senior Lecturer at The Open University

The speakers will consider learning languages through technology and digital innovation. Organised by The Open University and hosted by the NLI as part of Bliain na Gaeilge.

Mairéad Nic Giolla Mhichíl, DCU Associate Professor of Information Technology,  will consider how to support those who speak, engage and experience Irish in its many forms – particularly digital. She will draw on the experiences of learners from DCU’s online course ‘ Irish 101: An Introduction to Irish Language and Culture‘, which is co-funded by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht with support from the Irish National Lottery and delivered on FutureLearn, an initiative of The Open University.
Considering the wider aspects of learning languages online, Senior Lecturer at The Open University, Fernando Rosell-Aguilar will look at the cutting-edge technology and pedagogy that The Open University uses and the results of such initiatives on platforms such as FutureLearn, as well as the integration of language learning into learners’ routines through apps and social media, and how this can be beneficial for fitting learning into our busy 21st century lives.
This event is suitable for anyone who wants to engage with technology as a route into language learning, particularly the Irish language, as part of Bliain na Gaeilge!

Free to attend.

Teanga agus foghlaim

Dé Máirt 20Samhain, 2in

Dearcfaidh an imeacht saor in aisce seo, atá curtha i láthair ag An Ollscoil Oscailte mar pháirt de Bhliain na Gaeilge, ar léann na dteangacha tríd theicneolaíocht agus nuálaíocht.
Déanfaidh Comhollamh Teicneolaíocht Faisnéise DCU, Mairéad Nic Giolla Mhichíl, machnamh ar na slite ar féidir tacaíocht a thabhairt dóibh siúd a labhrann, a théann i nglic le, agus a théann i dtaithí ar an Ghaeilge sna múnlaí go léir ina bhfaightear í – go digiteach ach go háirithe. Bainfidh sí leas as an taithí a fuair foghlaimeoirí ó chúrsa ar líne DCU ‘Gaeilge 101: Tús Eolais ar Theanga agus ar Chultúr na nGael’, atá cómhaoinithe ag An Roinn Cultúir, Oidhreachta agus Gaeltachta le tacaíocht ó Chrannchur Náisiúnta na hÉireann agus curtha i láthair ar FutureLearn, tionscnamh de chuid na hOllscoile Oscailte.
Le haird ar na gnéithe leathna a bhaineann le léann na dteangacha ar líne, caithfidh Fernando Rosell-Aguilar, Léachtóir Sinsearach san Ollscoil Oscailte, súil ar an teicneolaíocht cheannródaíoch agus an oideolaíocht a bhaineann an Ollscoil Oscailte úsáid as, agus leis na torthaí a bhíonn ag tionscnaimh mar sin ar ardáin mar FutureLearn, chomhmaith leis an dóigh a bhfuil léann na dteangacha á chomhcheangail le gnáthaimh na bhfoghlaimeoirí tríd aipeanna agus na meáin shóisialta, agus an dóigh a bhféadfaí tairbhe a bhaint as seo uilig chun an léann a chónascadh lenár saolta gnóthacha 21ú Aoiseacha.
Fóirfidh an imeacht seo d’aon duine ar mhaith leis nó léi dul i nglic leis an teicneolaíocht mar shlí isteach ar léann na dteangacha, go speisialta an Ghaeilge, mar pháirt de Bhliain na Gaeilge!
