Rising Exhibition: A tour of the "Rising" exhibition focusing on architecture.

Part of the ‘Capstones Shift: Architectural Legacies of the Easter Rising’ programme.

Thursday 2 June at 2pm

'Walk and talk’ tour through the Rising exhibition in the library’s National Photographic Archive.

Rising is a major photographic exhibition that showcases the NLI's rich imagery of the events and locations of 1916. The exhibition draws on some of the most important collections of photographs at the National Library. It includes images from the Keogh Collection, the Independent Newspapers (Ireland) Collection and newly digitised photographs from the De Valera Collection, and various 1916 albums. The tour will introduce the photographs and collections featured in the exhibition.

It includes a number of large scale photographs that emphasise the Rising's impact on Dublin's city centre. In addition to showing the physical damage to the city centre, the exhibition features photographs relating to the complex political situation in the run up to the Easter Rising and the various groups involved. It features also photographs relating to the arrests, courts martials and internments following the Rising, and the subsequent amnesty for prisoners.

All welcome and booking is not required.

Visit the Capstones Shift website for more information about the programme of lectures, exhibitions, conferences, film screenings and publications taking place in 2016.
