Join us for this lunchtime talk for Seachtain na Gaeilge when NLI historian and staff member, Gearóid Ó Lúing will tell the story of NLI staff involvement in 1916.
James Crawford Neil worked as a library assistant in the National Library and was shot accidentally during Easter Week.
Patrick J O’Connor, a colleague of James Crawford Neil in the National Library was a member of the Irish Volunteers and fought in the Rising. He was dismissed from his post due to his involvement in the Rising, but he was reinstated in 1922 after Independence.
Seán T O’Kelly, who at one time worked in the National Library, was a founder member of the Irish Volunteers. He was in the GPO during the Rising acting as aide-de-camp to Patrick Pearse. He later became President of Ireland.
The lecture will also describe the Library’s role in collecting material relating to the period 1912-1921.
