In June and July 2005, the National Library of Ireland, on behalf of the Royal Danish Embassy, played host to Once Upon a Time, a temporary exhibition to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Hans Christian Andersen.
The exhibition, in travelling format, came to Dublin for just six weeks, before moving on to Edinburgh for Festival time there. In tandem with Once Upon a Time, the Library devised a programme of related events including storytelling and workshops for children and a short series of public lectures on Andersen’s work and his enduring influence.
For more information on the worldwide celebration of the Hans Christian Andersen bicentenary, and the many related events which took place, see the HCA2005 website.
