Irish Portrait Prints and Drawings
There are upwards of 18,000 portrait prints, most acquired as part of the gift of Dr Jaspar Joly. Over 3,000 are of Irish interest and famous figures such as Daniel O'Connell, the Duke of Wellington, Edmund Burke and Jonathan Swift are represented in numerous works. Other prints are after paintings by Irish artists including John Comerford, Hugh Douglas Hamilton, Charles Grey RHA, James Petrie, Sir Martin Archer Shee, Stephen Catterson Smith and British artists including Sir Joshua Reynolds, Sir Thomas Lawrence and Sir Peter Lely.

Outstanding Irish printmakers are also represented with works by early mezzotint artists James McArdell, Thomas Beard, John Brooks and Andrew Miller and engravings by Irishmen Henry Brocas Senior, John Kirkwood and Patrick Maguire. The Department also holds some original portrait drawings including a collection by John Butler Yeats of his family and circle of friends.
