Irish Historical Prints and Drawings
Comprises illustrations, watercolours and engravings recording political, economic and social history from the 1660s onwards. Irish historical events are well represented and the collection includes prints by Hollar and Maes covering the Williamite wars, William Sadler’s drawings of the 1798 Rebellion, an extensive collection on Daniel O’Connell and Catholic Emancipation amassed by T.M. Ray, secretary of the Catholic Repeal Association and original drawings by CW Cole covering Parnell’s campaign, the Duke of Edinburgh’s ‘Relief of Irish Distress’ tour, and events surrounding the boycott of Lord Erne’s estate, Co. Mayo, in 1880. There are also many commemorative prints issued on the anniversaries of Irish historical events.
