Lawrence Photographic Project 1990/1991.
The Lawrence Photographic Project which was carried out between 1990 and 1991, was a nationwide enterprise which re-photographed a thousand of the urban and rural scenes contained in the original Lawrence Collection. The project was organised jointly by the Federation of Local History Societies and the Federation for Ulster Local Studies and was sponsored by Fuji Ireland Ltd. The project was carried through on an entirely voluntary basis, by seventy-eight photographers, backed by fourteen local organisers and a small central committee.
All thirty-two counties of Ireland are represented, including all the larger towns. The working documents which were completed in respect of each photograph, can be accessed by researchers. A printed catalogue which explains the project’s background is also available. The collection will be made fully searchable via the National Library of Ireland catalogue in 2012, in advance of a planned digitization project.
