This area is represented by the 377 folio volumes of ‘Kilmainham Papers’. These records of the Commanders-in-Chief of the Forces in Ireland from 1780 to 1890 provide detailed information on such matters as recruitment, personnel, encampments and movements of troops.
There is an extensive collection of military material relating to the movement for national independence in Ireland up to 1922. These include the papers of Thomas MacDonagh, John Redmond and Thomas Clarke.
The music collection includes gifts such as the Joan Trimble collection from 1950-1995, the archive of the Feis Ceoil from 1897-1972, and the archive of the Music Association of Ireland.

The areas of art and architecture are represented by correspondence relating to Harry Kernoff, Sarah Purser, Harry Clarke and Norah McGuiness.
Also included are papers relating to Sir Hugh Lane, best known for establishing the Municipal Gallery of Modern Art in Dublin. There are also numerous collections, such as that of Francis Johnston, containing architectural drawings, plans and surveys for houses, castles, monasteries, offices, military installations and gardens.
