Proclamation by James Butler, Lord Lieutenant, 1666.
This collection of approximately 900 titles comprises political, historical, commercial, legal and religious material, mainly of Irish interest. Many of the items are Dublin printings. Titles date from the sixteenth to the eighteenth century, mostly in the form of Government Proclamations. They include a proclamation, dated 1666, by the Lord Lieutenant and Council ordering the restoration of seized fire-arms to those persons ‘who will take the Oath of Supremacy’, a message from a committee of Parliament, dated 1642, to the Spanish ambassador warning against helping rebels in Ireland, and an appeal to parishioners by the governors of the charity school of St. Mary’s Parish, Dublin to attend the annual charity sermon in 1800.
Three hundred and thirty three unique items from this collection have been filmed as part of the Gale Group’s ESTC project and will be available to view on microfilm shortly. They will also be available digitally in the future.
