Lights! Camera! Action! Titanic mini-series records scene at the NLI
A little bit of Hollywood glamour visited the NLI on Saturday 5th November as TV series Titanic – Blood and Steel shot a scene in our prestigious Reading Room. The series, a 12-part fictional TV drama about the making of the Titanic, will be broadcast worldwide on the centenary of the sinking next April.
Roughly 40 crew and 20 extras were on set, with the Reading Room doubling as somewhere in New York in 1905. The scene in question starred Neve Campbell (Scream) and Kevin Zegers (Transamerica) and depicted Campbell's character attempting to get her boyfriend (Zegers) a position on the Titanic as she is personal assistant to one of the main financiers of the ship.
Chris Noth (Sex and the City) who also stars in the series even found time to visit our award-winning exhibition Yeats: the life and works of William Butler Yeats.
The NLI did not charge a fee for the filming, requesting that Titanic Films Ltd make a donation to the Simon Community instead.
This is not the only connection the NLI has with the infamous ocean liner. If you would like to delve deeper into the ship’s history, visit us and browse through newspaper coverage of the disaster or dissect the findings of the British Parliamentary Enquiry into the sinking. Who knows what you might find?
