NPA hosts "Belonging –Irish Queer Youth" this June and July
The NPA’s current exhibition, Belonging –Irish Queer Youth, is curated by Kevin Gaffney, and features in the PhotoIreland 2014 Canon Open Programme, http://2014.photoireland.org/program/belonging/. It runs until 27 July.
The organisation BeLongTo (www.belongto.org) was founded in 2003 for LGBT people aged 14-23 to combat homophobia and transphobia in Ireland. This exhibition documents young people’s participation in Dublin Pride events, nationwide campaigns to end homophobic bullying in Irish schools, advocacy work, political protests and actions, global solidarity work, and it includes study portraits of BeLongTo young people themselves. The 63 photos on exhibition are part of the BeLongTo digital photographic archive, which will be donated to the National Library’s National Photographic Archive. Three short films document ten years of BeLongto activities.
The exhibition is free to visit in the NPA: Monday to Saturday 10am to 5pm and on Sunday 12 noon to 5pm.
