Children's mid term break workshops
During the autumn mid term break we are hosting practical science workshops for children with Anyone 4 Science. The workshops are based around some of the themes covered in our Particles of the Past exhibition and also celebrate Dublin City of Science 2012.
Thursday 1 November
Kitchen science ( 5 – 8yrs) at 11am - 11.45am
Pomology is the study of fruit, in this workshop learn about the life cycle of plants, what biologists classify as fruits and why. Fruits are subdivided into different groups. Everyone will get the chance to experiment with and dissect different fruit and then classify them.
Please note: It is important that the parents should notify us of any allergies prior to their child attending this workshop
Electricity (5 – 8yrs) at 12pm - 12.45pm
On slides and trampolines, even when combing our hair we will have experienced static electricity. What is it, how does it happen and how can we use it to do tricks!
Electricity (9 – 12 yrs) at 2pm - 2.45pm
About 250 years ago a tidy doctor made a remarkable discovery which changed our lives completely. He discovered current electricity. At this workshop you will find out about his observations, his friend's disbelief and you might even find out that you can become a battery!
Investigating matter (9-12yrs) at 3pm - 3.45pm
350 years ago, an Irishman - Robert Boyle was to change the way we think about the elements and matter. In this workshop we will explore the different states of matter and see does all matter obey Boyle's rules.
