Regional Genius: Place and Identity in Irish Writing
Adult Learning Course in conjunction with UCD
The course will run from February 4th until 25 March (8 Tuesdays) from 10am - 12.30pm

Course Cost €195.

The course will look at the role of place, locality and landscape in Irish writing. Throughout students will be encouraged to explore how authors respond to and shape notions of place and community within Ireland. The different genres of poetry, novels, short stories and drama are represented and the chosen authors reflect the manuscript holdings of the library. Writers whose work will be encountered include: W.B.Yeats, Seamus Heaney, John McGahern, Brendan Kennelly, Elizabeth Bowen, Patrick Kavanagh, and Brian Friel. A key feature of the course will be the opportunity to visit and view the National Library’s manuscript collections of the authors considered.
