Electronic Resources are online sources of information. They are generally in the form of journal articles, databases, websites, subject guides or searchable full text digitised collections. The National Library subscribes to a number of these resources which offer access to a rich variety of digital content held elsewhere. These resources are available to readers using the Library in person, and we hope to make them available remotely to registered readers as part of our development of services in the near future.

Early English Books Online
A digital collection of around 100,000 printed items published in English between 1473 and 1700, featuring images of every page of each item. All text is fully searchable.
Eighteenth Century Collections Online
This resource contains images of every page of 150,000 books published in the 18th century. All text is fully searchable.
House of Commons Parliamentary Papers
This database provides access to the parliamentary papers of the British House of Commons published between 1801 and 2006. It delivers searchable full text for most of the papers, along with a detailed subject index. Content for 1979-2004 is still being added; this work should be completed in 2007.
Irish Newspaper Archives
A full text, searchable archive for over 20 Irish newspapers, both national and regional titles, including the Irish Independent, Irish Press and Kerryman. Also contains full text archives of historic newspapers such as the Freeman’s Journal, the Nation and Finn’s Leinster Journal
Irish Times Digital Archive
The fully searchable Digital Archive contains exact reproduction of all editions published by the Irish Times from 1859 onwards. There is also a Text Archive which contains all articles published on Ireland.com including the Irish Times online and Breaking News from 1996 onwards.
JSTOR Ireland Periodical Collection
A full text, searchable archive for more than 75 key Irish Journals from the 18th Century to the present day. Features 690,000 pages and journals with moving walls between 1 and 5 years. Titles include Analecta Hibernia, History Ireland and The Furrow.
Nineteenth Century Index
This database provides integrated access to the most important sources for researching 19th books, periodicals, official publications, newspapers and archives.
A Divided Community: This searchable resource provides complete facsimile images of the Stormont Cabinet Papers (1921-1972), from the Northern Ireland Public Record Office.
Ordnance Survey of Ireland
This resource provides digital images of the first edition 6" maps (1833-1844) for the counties of the Republic of Ireland, and can be searched by location.
Oxford Dictionary of National Biography
55,000 biographies of people who shaped the history of the British Isles and beyond are now available digitally. The digital version of the DNB contains over 10,000 portrait images, and provides users with advanced search capabilities.
Times Literary Supplement Centenary Archive
Full text, searchable archive of articles and book reviews from the Times Literary Supplement, 1902 to 1990.
19th Century British Library Newspapers
This is a full text fully searchable digital archive of 50 daily and weekly newspapers. There are 1 million pages of digital content. The Irish published titles are Belfast Newsletter and Freeman’s Journal.
17th and 18th century Burney (British Library) collection
This is a full text fully searchable digital archive of nearly 1,270 newspapers and news pamphlets. This resource has 1 million pages of digital content. Irish titles are: Dublin Gazette 1708 – 1797, Dublin Journal 1725 – 1726 and Dublin Mercury 1723 – 1770.
The Times Digital Archive 1785 – 1985
This database provides images of every page of The Times newspaper over 200 years. All the text is fully searchable – including news, obituaries, and advertisements – or you can choose to browse a particular issue.
MLA Bibliography 1926 - February 2008
The MLA International Bibliography indexes books, articles and dissertations published on modern languages, literatures, folklore, and linguistics, providing coverage from 1926 to the present. It includes the MLA Thesaurus and the MLA Directory of Periodicals, which lists detailed information on over 5,500 journals, including over 4,400 indexed in the Bibliography.
