Through digitisation we are working to make our physical collections available to the widest possible audience. Our current digitisation programme started in 2010 and digitized material can be viewed online though the Online catalogue.
Photographs, prints, drawings, ephemera, manuscripts, maps and music can all be viewed online. Digitisation also helps preserve material and major collections which have been digitised include the library’s fragile glass plate photographs in the Lawrence, Poole, Independent H., Eason, Stereo Pairs, Clonbrock, Keogh and Tempest collections.
We participate in partnership arrangements allowing some of our primary source material to be made digitally available alongside collections from other organisations. Digitised NLI library material can also be accessed through other sites such as Europeana, the NLI on Flickr Commons and the Google Cultural Institute.
In addition we work to make the content of our printed book collections available digitally. Our Online catalogue links records of the library’s holdings to copies that have been digitised by Hathi Trust, Open Library and Google.
