Well done Padraig. A key factor in Sligo was the support of the local Nationalist establishment for the union. This was, it appears, due to the perception that they had a common enemy - the non-Catholic businessmen who controlled the docks and the shipping.

Well done also John on your work in this area! Michael Wheatley's "Nationalism and the Irish Party: Provincial Ireland 1910-1916" (Oxford, 2005), is also good on the political situation in Sligo town at the time.

I should also mention my recently published "Sligo: The Irish Revolution 1912-1923" (Four Courts Press, 2012) which also deals with the strike and the shorter strike in 1911.

Good to see that Sligo 1913 dispute is getting attention. There's an an account of the strike (& a simultaneous one in Galway) with contexts in my book, Labour in the West of Ireland, 1890-1914. I'm booked to give a talk on this Sligo on Mayday
