Casualties

Insurgents, soldiers and police

The fatalities of the Rising amounted to 64 insurgents (apart from those executed), 132 soldiers and police, and about 230 civilians. In addition, there were well over 1,000 wounded. The names of the insurgents and those of the military and police have been recorded, but relatively few of the civilians are documented. It is appropriate that the combatants killed or wounded on both sides be commemorated, the vast majority being brave men carrying out what they believed to be their duty, some making the ultimate sacrifice.
